Has anyone done Ben Avon & Beinn a' Bhuird from Tomintoul?
On the map it looks like an easy cycle in (12k) - has anyone done it?

July this year.  My photos here and Ian's photos here.

The cycling is great but more like 11 miles than 12km.

We had really bad weather on the tops - hence my lack of photos!

Cheers Neil, that's helpful.
A possible goer then, for my regular late October trip.

I have climbed them from Keiloch near Braemar. This also involved a cycle of approx 8-9km however it is a bit of bone shaker on rough, stony terrain albeit an estate track. This was still a relatively long day about 8 hours off the top of my head, but the advantage of the cycle out is that it is all downhill which helps after a tiring day!

The route from Keiloch is a very good one.  Gleann an t-Slugain is beautiful and the 'fairy glen' one of the highlights of the Cairngorms.

There's a good trip report using this route here.

I was hit by the Munro virus after my first 5 Munro' s in the Torridon / Lochcarron area March this year.
Intend to take a friend in October who I convinced by saying we could combine it with some distillery visits on the resting days in between the bagging.  Munro on day 1, distillery on day 2, Munro day 3 and so forth.
Therefore bagging Ben Avon and Beinn a'Bhuird from Tomintoul is preferred. Since we're from the Netherlands and flying in from Inverness i am interested in tips on travel to Dufftown/Tomintoul, Hostels  and bike hire in the area considdering we will not rent a car to save on costs.
Any recommendations?
