Looking for a decently technical but reasonably safe route to try out my new mountaineering skills. Something where ropes are needed but where the technical difficulty is not too high. Glencoe, Cairngorms or near Crianlarich if possible.

Try Angel's Ridge or the Fiaciall Ridge in the Cairngorms - nothing to difficult but still a sense of achievement

Curved Ridge is quite a good call if you're just looking to practice. The easiest line is very obvious and, if you follow it, you probably wouldn't need a rope. But obviously, that doesn't stop you using one; and it also means you can try a slightly harder line if you want to. That's especially true higher up where there are a couple of variations that are still not overly difficult.

Of course, different people have different ideas of when ropes are needed. Check out this guy for instance...
