Usually the shortest way to climb the mountain, making best use of tracks and paths to gain altitude. Route navigation requires map reading skills and an ability to navigate with a compass.

The information given here will enable you to annotate your map and plan your route. We do not give anecdotal descriptions on where to find the paths, worn by the feet of previous mountaineers.

Where the access routes are few or the ridge is narrow, paths are generally obvious. On open ground, following paths without using your compass may get you lost in poor visibility.

Avoid the route through the farm at Tullich recommended in some guides - unfriendly farmer.

A less than spectacular route on a less then spectacular Munro but certainly enjoyable none the less. The path is indistinct at times but route finding is fairly straight forward, Once the farm land is left behind and some height is gained stunning views can be enjoyed of the surrounding area. I deviated slightly from the standard route to avoid the strong winds by heading slightly further North East and climbing onto the ridge betwean Meall Ghaordiah and Carn Chreag which offers reasonable shelter.
