Route Waypoint Map

The total ascent is 1,005 metres. Allow 3.5 hours to complete this 7.56 km route.

The hillphones service can inform you of stalking activities in the area.

Usually the shortest way to climb the mountain, making best use of tracks and paths to gain altitude. Route navigation requires map reading skills and an ability to navigate with a compass.

The information given here will enable you to annotate your map and plan your route. We do not give anecdotal descriptions on where to find the paths, worn by the feet of previous mountaineers.

Where the access routes are few or the ridge is narrow, paths are generally obvious. On open ground, following paths without using your compass may get you lost in poor visibility.

6.5 hr round trip with plenty of breaks, walk up glen to headwaters and follow SW tributary into coire thro ravine, decent path to here and ascend 450m up steep but good firm grassy rocky ground, skirting 2 obvious towers to right of buttress by the obvious grassy rakes to their left. brings you out close to summit and few easy rocky steps bring you to top within 10 minutes. drop to col and reascend 823m top then follow long ridge with lots of rocky steps to starting point A superb circuit and a rewarding day on the hill.

Used the route to get back to the car after ascending via great ridge (a climb not a walk).

Did this route 9/11/06 in 4.5 hours, and felt I'd missed out - like doing Ben Nevis by the tourist route instead of the arete. Rough rocky mountain in Ardgour wilderness, with excellent summit views, BUT: this 'ridge' (read hillside) is too broad to hold interest; a relentless plug on boggy ground around craggy outcrops over many false summits, and little walking excitement until the top of Sron a' Garbh Choire Bhig is reached. Another time I’d take a full day to circuit Coire an Iubhair traversing Druim an Iubhair and Beinn Bheag, which would reveal the true topography of this fine mountain.
