A straight-forward ascent of a popular mountain. There crags at summit, so navigate with care in poor visibility.

Here we provide the nearest town to the start of the route where you will find basic services.

We then give directions from that location to the route start. Your approach route may differ.

Route Waypoint Map

The total ascent is 756 metres. Allow 3.5 hours to complete this 10.14 km route.

In winter months please check the local snow conditions at sais.gov.uk.

The hillphones service can inform you of stalking activities in the area.

Usually the shortest way to climb the mountain, making best use of tracks and paths to gain altitude. Route navigation requires map reading skills and an ability to navigate with a compass.

The information given here will enable you to annotate your map and plan your route. We do not give anecdotal descriptions on where to find the paths, worn by the feet of previous mountaineers.

Where the access routes are few or the ridge is narrow, paths are generally obvious. On open ground, following paths without using your compass may get you lost in poor visibility.

Despite its amazing views towards Pitlochry it still has a feeling of remotness that gives this mountain a thoroughly enjoyably few hours out. A took the main path up past the dam at the loch however came back around the loch for a change of scenery with again, great views towards Blair Atholl. (?)

For the ascent I crossed the wee dam and then headed off up one of the obvious bouldery heathery rakes to the summit, avoiding the freeway style path...used that on the way down... the directissima route is easy enough if you you are confident on steepish ground.
