Route Waypoint Map

The total ascent is 1,409 metres. Allow 6.5 hours to complete this 19.93 km route.

In winter months please check the local snow conditions at sais.gov.uk.

The hillphones service can inform you of stalking activities in the area.

Usually the shortest way to climb the mountain, making best use of tracks and paths to gain altitude. Route navigation requires map reading skills and an ability to navigate with a compass.

The information given here will enable you to annotate your map and plan your route. We do not give anecdotal descriptions on where to find the paths, worn by the feet of previous mountaineers.

Where the access routes are few or the ridge is narrow, paths are generally obvious. On open ground, following paths without using your compass may get you lost in poor visibility.

Bit of a slog, Cam Chreag by far and away the most interesting of the 3 hills. And Beinn Odhar has the best views, Theres a handy fence to help with the nav if need be. We added on the other 2 corbetts whilst in the area, tough but very rewarding day!

These hills are worth doing in their own right if only for the different perspectives you get of the probably already-familiar local munros. For that reason I've rated it a 4. Beinn Dorain looks absolutely monstrous from Beinn Odhar. I chose to add Beinn nam Fuaran and Beinn a Chaisteil onto the end of this walk and am thus forced to agree with those who say that this is a tough round indeed. Four of the five ascents are substantial and indeed greater than you generally get on most ridge-borne munros. Worth including Beinn a Chasteil though purely for the view of the railway loop. Terrific!

I enjoyed this - when I got back to the car! It's a long walk and the second steep ascent onto Beinn Chaorach starts steeper and stays steep - the releif comes when you realise there are no false summits and you're there. the stroll to the 3rd (Cam Chreag) is pleasant giving good and different views of well known hills - Ben Challum actually looks interesting. It took me 8hrs in total the walk back is pleasant. I encountered a dog at the cottage, it barked a lot and I'm not good with dogs I don't know. I made the right kind of friendly noises and it seemed interested but not hostile :¬)
