Usually the shortest way to climb the mountain, making best use of tracks and paths to gain altitude. Route navigation requires map reading skills and an ability to navigate with a compass.

The information given here will enable you to annotate your map and plan your route. We do not give anecdotal descriptions on where to find the paths, worn by the feet of previous mountaineers.

Where the access routes are few or the ridge is narrow, paths are generally obvious. On open ground, following paths without using your compass may get you lost in poor visibility.

If doing this Corbett parking at Forest lodge then going via Polharrow burn ,the north of Loch Harrow then following the folk burn to the stile below Polmaddy Gairy. This route is now signposted all the way to the stile ,despite this i found it still a very enjoyable day out.

Despite terrible weather forcast, day remained fine, if a bit blustery on top. Started from Forest Lodge, bit of hassle ploughing through forrest and spongy tuffety grass on hillside makes going a little rough underfoot. Lovely huge flat summit could be confusing in bad visibility, but lovely views all round. Nice little herd of black goats and their babies as well!
