 Notes
Some handwork may be required on the SE shoulder of Ben Vane, but is very easily negotiated. Care should taken on the summit ridge of Beinn Ime when icy. No real difficulties on the route, but a fair amount of climbing.

In winter months please check the local snow conditions at sais.gov.uk.

The hillphones service can inform you of stalking activities in the area.

Usually the shortest way to climb the mountain, making best use of tracks and paths to gain altitude. Route navigation requires map reading skills and an ability to navigate with a compass.

The information given here will enable you to annotate your map and plan your route. We do not give anecdotal descriptions on where to find the paths, worn by the feet of previous mountaineers.

Where the access routes are few or the ridge is narrow, paths are generally obvious. On open ground, following paths without using your compass may get you lost in poor visibility.

A good route which took a reasonably fit pair of us just under 7 hours to complete but that wasn't exactly a leisurely pace. Overall I enjoyed it and it felt good to bag both in one go. Be advised that as far as we could see there wasn't really any paths, sheep or otherwise between Ben Vane and Beinn Ime and the land between them is quite boggy so that section is quite hard going but we just pushed on and got there in the end!

We also ended up on some pretty steep crags off the side of Ben Vane. I advise from the summit of Ben Vane when facing over to Beinn Ime, that you walk as far to the right as you can and then follow the long and gentle out crop down into the valley before climbing Beinn Ime. The climb of Ben Vane is quite interesting and enjoyable. Good scrambling towards the top over the many false summits.

I think you mean more West than SW off Ben Vane (even WNW ?) - SW had us dropping down some fairly steep corries - I think if we'd gone further North the descent would have been a little easier. There is not much of a track to follow - just sheep trails.
