Travel Information

Head to: Loch Torridon Hotel

Start from Loch Torridon Hotel (Ben Damph Lodge) on A896 at the head of Loch Torridon.

Usually the shortest way to climb the mountain, making best use of tracks and paths to gain altitude. Route navigation requires map reading skills and an ability to navigate with a compass.

The information given here will enable you to annotate your map and plan your route. We do not give anecdotal descriptions on where to find the paths, worn by the feet of previous mountaineers.

Where the access routes are few or the ridge is narrow, paths are generally obvious. On open ground, following paths without using your compass may get you lost in poor visibility.

The path leading through the Rhododendrons starts about 100m past the Hotel entrance, initially it is steep up through the pines. After about a km things open out and taking the right hand fork a good stalkers path is followed steeply up to the col below Meall Gorm. Its worth going to Sgurr na Bana Mhoraire for the views down Loch Torridon. The route to the main summit can be done 2 ways and I chose to skirt the 868m point and up the lovely narrow, curving ridge to the summit. To return I went over the 868m point and descended rocky slopes back to the col, reversing the inward route.
