An estimate of the time taken based on a derivation of Naismiths rules. Our calculation is based on the horizontal and ascent components of a climb, we do not make a reduction for descent.
Registered users can customise these walking times by specifying their own walking and ascending speeds. They can also add a fixed time period for stoppages.

The "Ptarmigan Ridge Route" is relatively easy but initially on steep slopes, which can be muddy in wet weather. This is a less used path past a beautiful cascading burn with picturesque waterfalls.

We done this route in reverse (up the tourist route & down ptarmigan). The weather wasn't too great so it would probably been better to come
down the tourist route, although it was enjoyable none the less.

At the summit turn your tail and come back down the Ptarmigan
ridge; don't put a toe on the soul-sucking tourist path!

Truly fantastic day, breaking through cloud at around 1000 feet and into glorious sunshine. Word of caution - in snow, you WILL need crampons and axe(s) for the final couple of hundred feet up to the summit.

Good route which kept us well away from the hordes until our descent down the tourist path.

Definitely a quieter route. Being overweight and unfit, however made this hard work. Stunning views (until ascent into cloud), and a great short scramble to the summit. Very enjoyable route compared to the boring "tourist route".
