This is the Carn Dearg (834m) which lies to the E of Glen Roy, and which necessitates crossing the River Roy. Carn Dearg is a sprawling hill with ridges running N to Sgurr an Fhithich, NE to Torr o' Sonn, E to Creag Tharsuinn (715m), WSW then SW to a col leading to Leana Mhor and finally WNW to Carn Bhrunachain (723m). Due to the location of the nearest bridge the preferred ascent routes are the ridges flanking Coire na Reinich. The NW slopes are steep with unusual shelves known as the parallel roads, which are believed to be the shorelines of an ancient loch.
