Garbh Bheinn [Loch Leven]

Corbett

Quick Facts
This is the height of the mountain above sea level. However, on the climb, it is the ascent that matters, i.e. the sum of all the uphill parts of the route.
Altitude
867 m (2844 ft)

This is the standard notation used on Ordnance Survey Landranger maps.

Each reference consists of two letters identifying a 100,000 metre square block then three digits defining the Easting and finally the three digits defining the Northing with reference to the South West corner of the block.

NN166712 is the grid reference for the summit of Ben Nevis. Where you are given the map number ( For Ben Nevis = 41) it is acceptable to omit the two initial letters e.g. 166712. (Instructions on how to read the references are given on the OS maps).

Started just over the bridge from the campsite at Allt Glean a Chaolais. There is room for 2 cars.Walk back 100 yds and take the path across the road.So beginns the start of several false tops. The views improve rapidly as height is gained with Pap of Glencoe very prominent.Loch Leven below soon appears. The North face of Aonach Eagach is magnificent with the ridge itself in great view as further height is gained. The acual summit of Garbh Beinn appears to be ahead steeply to the West but more false summits appear.Views down on to the lower top accompanied by Loch Leven Loch Linnhe.Ben Nevis.Mamores.Pap of Glencoe. The Munros of Aonach Eagagh and its razor back ridge are outstanding.A tough steep hill but very rewarding for the commanding views. The Easterly Cairn gives great views to Blackwater resevoir with the North Cairn looking right on to Ben Nevis.Worth a short walk East for the view down to Kinlochleven.Very dramatic.
