Sunday 27th June left a sunny perth The Wife Fiona and her pal Pam and myself looking forward to a good day climbing, I pass this hill everyday on my way to work in falkirk it looks spectacular when you see it standing there in the magnificent blue yonder. However as we nered our quarry on the south side of lochearn the cloud was hanging down over the shoulder further up the path, carry on regardless and hope it clears. The hill was busy on this wet sunday morning. Got to the top but must go back and see what we went up for. very enjoyable a must

walked Ben Vorlich and Stuc a' Chroin on the 29th of June, weather was fine, bright and warm with a light breeze which kept us cool on the tops. A nice steady ascent which took about 2 1/2 hours to summit on Ben Vorlich. Did the scramble up the prow on Stuc a' Chroin which was enjoyable and fairly straightforward. Took us 2 hours to get back to the start at Ardvorlich house. We walked down through the garden, which is just above the waterfalls at the side of the path leading up the side of the wood just as you leave the Ardvorlich house. It's quite spectacular in there and is worth a visit.

Ben Vorlich is straightforward in the current snow conditions, the ascent of the buttress at Stuc a' Chroin however, is a bit of a challenge with deep snow between the boulders. I did it today (20th Feb 2010) and the snow is quite layered and loose near the top so it my be a good idea to check the avalanche forecast before you commit to do it.

Took my sis up Ben Vorlich 12.09.09 and for a change had glorious weather and great views. Took the route up Stuc A Chroin 1st, just for a change. Came back dry, a little muddy and sun tanned. Couldn't have hoped for a better day after the trauma that hill has caused and had great views. Last time came off Ben Vorlich headed for Stuc A Chroin and veered to the right instead of the left. Any one lost in the fog ever, keep to the fence posts and follow them until the beallach and follow path to Stuc A Chroin or back down the glen. Safest and best route.

Climbed Ben Vorlich & Stuc a' Chrion on 6th of June '09 with Christine, Stu & John. The ascent up Ben vorlich is fairly quick, getting steeper at the end. Great views at the top. Stuc a' Chrion on the other hand is entirely different. Thoroughly enjoyed the scramble up the cliff face. Can be a little daunting looking up at it from the bottom, but is excellent fun if you give it a go. Great route.

Climbed with Gill on 2nd Jan 2009. Lots of ice on the path and cloud on the summit but an easy climb. Would recommend this walk to anyone looking to bag their first munro.

A great climb - one of the few hills where you can see the summit from pretty much the start of the walk to the end. Met a couple on the way and spent most of the rest of the day with them. Weather clouded over, much to our relief as it had been very warm until then. Didn't dwell at the summit, headed on to the Bealach and prepared for Stuc a' Chroin. A faboulous walk.

Climbed as part of a double with Stuc a Chroin. Straightforward ascent from Loch Earn, great views across to its' rocky neighbour. Bridge still conspicuous by its absence!

Bridge now fixed. You can approach from the Strathyre Road.

Bridge at Edinample still washed away, so access Ardvorlich via St Fillans. Watch out for fisherman parking in passing places and partially blocking the road. Take a car, rather than anything larger. But just over the bridge at Ardvorlich there was plenty of space. The route's a bit ordinary but scramble to Stuc a'Chroin adds variety. It is avoidable on the right if you don't like heights - theres a clear path, but it leaves the main path sooner than you might think, so keep your eyes peeled.

1st July 2006. Bridge still out. Drive around Loch Earn to other side of the bridge takes about 20 minutes.

Climbed on 03/06/06, weather was great. Bridge still down and they were strictly enforcing a no parking ban at the west side of it so drove round to the St Fillans side and approached from there. Lots of fisherman parking in passing places so watch your speed. Ben Vorlich was straight forward but I found Stuc a Chroin difficult as I'm scared of heights (I know don't say it) and the 'scramble' wasn't enjoyable. Descended by the SE ridge and walked round the bottom of Vorlich and home through Glen Vorlich which was easy enough.

Climbed Ben Vorlich on the 15/05/2006 from Ardvolich House and returned by Corie Buidhe (marked by posts in the glen) , weather was poor so no Stuc a Chroin. 29/05/2006 after camping out on the south shore of Loch Earn set of at 6:30am to miss out the bank holiday madness and had the entire glen to myself. The ascent of the ben is over surprisingly quickly, the buttress of Stuc a Chroin is straight forward it looks intimidating but straight up is the way to go! the return was made from the summit of the Stuc and over Ben Our! A good day out!!!

Alan Wilson advises us "that the bridge on the south loch earn road from the A84 is still 'gone' (ie...no longer intact after 2004 floods) so parking at usual place not possible unless travelling along south road from st fillans (at the east end of the loch) otherwise park on the west side of the creek and carefully cross over the rubble etc and walk to the hill access point..... adds time on of course... cheers" Thanks Alan!

I climbed Ben Vorlich and Stuc a'Chroin on 03/09/05 with my mate Colin. It was our first outing and I must say I found it pretty tough, although after 25 years of smoking I shouldn't have expected anything different. Took around 7 hours to do them both, with numerous rests. Hardest part for me was the last 2 or 3 km where my feet and calves were in agony on the rocky downhill path. That said, the weather was perfect for walking, & the views from the tops and the feeling of achievement when we got there was enough to get me off the ciggies and hooked on walking. Cant wait to get out again.

This is not a hard munro and is ideal for a beginner or a fun family day in good weather. Bridge is stil not prepared so either plan an alternative route with your car to the start or be prepared to add on an extra 3 km, which I did!

Climbed Ben Vorlich with two friends on 17/06/05. Started from bottom of approach road to Auchinner (693 154). Set up base camp in sheepfold at Dubh Choirein (644 167). Ascended the south-east ridge of Ben Vorlich (there is no path up this side of the mountain), taking 2 hrs from the sheepfold to reach the summit. Visibility was quite poor, but we could still see bits of Loch Earn. Continued across the Bealach and over Stuc a Chroin, then back down to the sheepfold. Noticed the next day when walking out towards Callander that the bridge south of Arivurichardich (642 130) has been swept away.

I climbed Ben Vorlich and Stuc a'Chroin on Friday the 13th of May,a glorious sunny day with a light easterly wind. I parked at the remains of the bridge at Edinample and walked along Loch Earn south side road to Arvorlich House. The last time I did this route was eleven years ago it was a pleasant return visit. The ascent is steady but not too difficult and the summit of Ben Vorlich is soon reached. The ascent of Stuc A'Chroin would be a bit tricky in bad weather but on this day it presented no problem. I returned to the car via Glen Ample which was a very pleasant stroll. Shame about the bridge!

Vehicle access to Ardvorlich (glen vorlich route) must now be made via the St Fillans end of Loch Earn as the Edinample Bridge was destroyed in 2004 flash floods (no date set for it to be rebuilt yet), Crossing on foot is still possible and an alternate route to Ben Vorlich and Stuc a Croin can also be made from the bridge through Glen Ample.
